Making Progress

One hundred thirty-five federally licensed firearms dealers (FFLs) attended a seminar in Indianapolis last week aimed at preventing the criminal misuse of firearms. Dubbed "Partnership for Progress," the one-day, free seminar from ATF, NSSF and the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) provided guidance on the rules and regulations governing the sale and transfer of firearms and how to detect and deter illegal straw purchases. "The event was a huge success," said Randy Clark, NSSF managing director of program development. "Not only are all these FFLs learning how to combat illegal straw purchases, but they are learning firsthand from ATF and FBI officials essential information they need to know today as a firearms retailer." Upcoming seminars are planned Sept. 12 in Spokane, Wash., and Sept. 14 in Portland, Ore. Firearms retailers are encouraged to attend.
