Jersey City 30-Day Law, Lawsuit

The City Council of Jersey City, N.J., last week passed a clarifying ordinance to a law it had adopted in June banning the sale or purchase of more than one handgun within a 30-day period. The ordinance, which passed by a 7-2 vote, clarifies that the 30-day prohibition applies to both sellers and buyers, including law enforcement employees. Following the passage of the original law, Frank Caso -- a member of NSSF's National Association of Firearms Retailers (NAFR) and its affiliate the New Jersey Association of Firearms Retailers (NJAFR) -- along with the New Jersey State Rifle and Pistol Association, filed suit against Jersey City on the grounds the city had interfered in matters reserved for the state. NJAFR will continue to closely monitor the legal action.
