It's Criminals That Do The Killing While Mayor Bloomberg tried to build support for various anti-gun initiatives at a "gun summit" in New York City last week, the fact remains that homicides in the city are at their lowest level in decades. In a story last Friday, The New York Times reported that it had obtained the basic records for every murder in the city over the last three years, and among its findings were that more than 90 percent of the killers had criminal records; and of those who wound up killed, more than half had [criminal records]. Said one official, "If the average New Yorker is concerned about being murdered in a random crime, the odds of that happening are really remote. If you are living apart from a life of crime, your risk is negligible."
