Illinois Gun Makers Unite; Bill Put On Hold For Now

A number of firearms manufacturers said last week they will pack up and leave Illinois if legislators approve a bill banning select semi-automatic firearms and .50-caliber rifles, reports The Pantagraph. On Friday, the deadline passed for a House vote on HB 2414, which marks a temporary victory for firearms manufacturers and retailers in the state. It remains possible, however, the bill will return. Several manufacturers spoke publicly about the bill last week. "Like all good citizens, the Illinois firearms manufacturers and our customers are more than willing to do our part in fighting crime," said ArmaLite president Mark Westrom. "But, playing our part does not include being vilified and run out of business. HB 2414 is a politically-motivated piece of feel good legislation that does a great disservice to the law-abiding people of Illinois."
