The number of paid hunting license holders declined slightly in 2003 over the previous year, down about 1.5% to 14,740,188. Slightly more than 5% of the U.S. population held a license. Gross dollars spent hunting continued to increase, up 3.2% from $658.9 million in 2002 to $679.8 million last year.
