Hunters, Shooters at the Polls

Last Tuesday, sportsmen and women helped elect many candidates who will stand up for gun owners, manufacturers and retailers, and approved measures to protect outdoor traditions. In Georgia and New Jersey, voters overwhelmingly endorsed a positive future for hunting in those states. In Michigan, however, a proposal to allow dove hunting was rejected. The Humane Society of the United States reportedly spent $1.3 million to fight the proposal. Though some opponents of gun rights were elevated to power, Americans also cast votes for what the National Rifle Association called "record numbers of pro-gun candidates, both Democrat and Republican." Newly elected senators Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Bob Casey (D-Pa.) and Jim Webb (D-Va.), for example, all ran as pro-gun and pro-sportsmen candidates. NSSF thanks all of its members and friends for helping to Vote Your Sport on Election Day and encourages all to remain informed and vigilant in continuing to stand up for our country's outdoor traditions and firearms freedoms.
