State sportsmen’s groups support an increase but worry about the long-term health of the agency. Meanwhile, agency leaders have given final approval on a separate measure, its Mentored Youth Hunting Program, which could help with future budgetary woes. Designed to welcome more young people into hunting, the program is part of the Families Afield initiative backed nationally by NSSF, National Wild Turkey Federation and U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance.
