Guns Outside The Workplace

A Florida bill being considered would prohibit employers from preventing employees from storing a firearm in their motor vehicle in workplace parking lots. The bill—H129—is awaiting House committee action. The Miami Herald reports the bill faces stiff opposition from Florida's Chamber of Commerce, the state's largest business lobby. Rep. Dennis Baxley, who introduced the legislation, said the bill would protect the rights of employees. ''We just disagree that the business community's private property rights trumps my Second Amendment rights,'' Baxley said. The bill excludes places like schools, where guns are restricted by law.
