Florida Passes 'No Net Loss' Hunting Bill

The Florida Legislature last week unanimously passed a "No Net Loss" of public hunting land bill, a victory for the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) and for hunters throughout the state. HB 265 makes Florida the fifth state to pass such legislation, joining Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland and Mississippi. The bill requires the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to keep the land that it manages open to hunting and, to the extent practical, to prevent the net loss of public hunting areas. In addition, the commission is required to submit a report to the Legislature every year that documents the number of acres available for hunting.
