First Shots at Steel Challenge

Spectators who have never fired a handgun will be able to take their first shots at the Steel Challenge this month. NSSF's First Shots program is partnering with the Steel Challenge world speedshooting championships, slated for Aug. 17-20 in Lake Piru, Calif., and other industry notables to give first-timers a chance to give shooting a try. First Shots will be held Aug. 18 and 19 and offers new shooters a chance to shoot alongside professionals and learn what handgun shooting and ownership is all about. Sponsors include Crimson Trace, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Taurus, the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and U.S. Practical Shooting Association (USPSA). The Steel Challenge was developed in 1981 by Mike Dalton and Mike Fichman to determine the world's fastest shooter. Since its inception, the competition has seen competitors set many new world records. NSSF is a hospitality sponsor of the event. Admission is free.
