First Shot For 'First Shots'

More than 40 newcomers to handgun shooting came out to Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Mass., on Saturday for the kickoff to "First Shots," a new NSSF program that partners with shooting ranges to attract newcomers to handgun shooting. In addition to learning the rules and requirements of handgun ownership in Massachusetts, attendees also had a chance to give shooting a try. Virtually all of them expressed a strong interest in pursuing shooting in the future. "More than 75 percent of the attendees took advantage of next-step opportunities by either signing up for a range membership or additional training classes required to meet the local laws of handgun ownership," said Cyndi Dalena, NSSF director of shooting sports development. The attendees also took the time to browse the center's retail shop, many taking advantage of a one-day offer for 10 percent off all merchandise. Range owners interested in holding a First Shots event can contact Dalena at cdalena@nssf.org or 203-426-1320 for a complete outline, planning guidance and assistance with ad placements. For upcoming events, stay tuned to www.FirstShots.org.
