| Federal Bill Threatens Sportsmen's Tax Breaks
An extensive federal tax reform bill would diminish tax benefits for sportsmen who contribute game mounts to wildlife museums and natural history displays.
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, sponsored S. 2020, which includes among its many provisions a tax code update that will result in the loss of tax benefits for sportsmen who contribute game mounts to nonprofit organizations. The bill passed the Senate Finance Committee on Nov. 16 and was approved by the Senate on Nov. 18.
The donation of animal mounts to wildlife exhibits provides educational opportunities for visitors who may otherwise never learn about the creatures, say defenders of the tax deduction. The donation is like that of artwork to a museum, considered charitable under the federal tax code. | |
