Families Afield Success Continues

Wyoming last week became the 24th state to enact Families Afield-style legislation to remove barriers for new hunters.

Senate File 51 has been signed into law by Governor Dave Freudenthal, allowing newcomers that do not have hunter education to receive a one-year special authorization to hunt while accompanied by a licensed adult who has been hunter education certified. The Wyoming bill allows for the mentor to accompany only one person at a time.

The Families Afield campaign was established by the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance, National Shooting Sports Foundation and National Wild Turkey Federation in 2004 to urge states to eliminate unnecessary hunting age restrictions and ease hunter education mandates for first-time hunters.
