Connecticut Senate Approves Bill To Add A Day In The Field

A Connecticut bill that would allow limited Sunday hunting has been approved by the state senate. Continued sportsmen’s support is needed to pass the bill before the impending end of the legislative session.

Senate Bill 605 to allow Sunday bowhunting on private property with landowner permission was approved by the senate on April 11 by a vote of 27 to 8. The bill now moves to the House for a floor vote.

The Senate-House Joint Committee on Environment, co-chaired by Sen. Bill Finch, D-Bridgeport, and Rep. Richard Roy, D-Milford, introduced the bill to help control the state’s deer population. Connecticut is facing problems with crop damage and deer-automobile collisions.

Connecticut sportsmen’s fast action is imperative, as the state’s legislative session ends on May 4. A successful Sunday deer bowhunting program could open the door for further Sunday hunting opportunities.

Take Action! Connecticut sportsmen should urge state representatives to pass SB 605. Explain that the bill provides an additional hunting opportunity that will help keep the deer population in check.
