Concealed Carry to Be Allowed in Most National Parks and Refuges

The Department of the Interior this week announced new rules that allow holders of concealed carry permits to take firearms into most of the nation’s national parks and wildlife refuges.

The regulations include all states in which citizens are allowed to carry a concealed weapon. The rules are expected to become effective next month and represent a significant shift in policy.

For the past 25 years, weapons were prohibited in national parks and refuges unless they were unloaded and not easily accessible. Currently, only two states, Illinois and Wisconsin, do not have some form of concealed carry permit.

Concealed carry will continue to not be allowed in any federal buildings that may reside inside a park or refuge.
