Canadian Government Postpones Firearms Stamping

The government of Canada has announced its decision to defer the planned Firearms Marking Regulations until December 1, 2009. Originally slated to begin December 1 of this year, the regulations were postponed following strong opposition from members of the firearms industry, who pointed out the technical challenges and lack of real benefits. The new regulation would require all firearms manufactured in Canada, or being imported by Canada, to have the letters "CA" and the last two digits of the year of import stamped onto the barrel of the firearm. The government will take the next two years to do a full review of both the technical feasibility and the actual benefits of having such a regulation.
