Boy Scout Council Creates First Shooting Sports Post

The nation's first Exploring Post to focus exclusively on the shooting sports was formed last week in Utah. The new post, part of the Great Salt Lake Area Boy Scout Council, will include NSSF's Scholastic Rifle Program, rimfire and centerfire rifle shooting, rimfire and centerfire revolver, semi-automatic pistol, skeet, trap, archery and activities with the Junior USA Shooting Team. The shooting sports have been a component of many Exploring groups in the past, such as police Exploring Posts, but this is the first to focus exclusively on shooting. Those interested in joining the Salt Lake City Exploring Post should contact Linda Keyes at the Great Salt Lake Area Council at (801) 582-7401. Others looking for help in forming their own shooting sports Exploring Post within their council can contact Jim Cassells, NSSF shooting development coordinator, at (203) 426-1320 or Learning for Life at (972) 580-2433.
