Blaming The Gun

The 16-year-old killer at Red Lake was obviously disturbed, previously threatened school violence and visited neo-Nazi Internet sites to voice his opinions. He killed his grandfather, then used that man's police-issue firearms, body armor and police vehicle in the murder of his teachers and fellow students. The Brady Center wasted no time issuing a news release linking the criminal's heinous behavior to the law-abiding firearms industry and its responsible customers. John Lott, author of the book The Bias Against Guns, exploring the news media's prejudices, was busy last week pointing out the latest examples of ways that gun prohibitionists have their way with news coverage of the issue.
