Bambi Is Basis For Beatle's Animal Activism

Former Beatle Paul McCartney says that he is a mouthpiece for the animal rights movement today because of a Walt Disney movie he watched as a boy.

“If you think of Bambi, it’s mum gets killed by a hunter, and I think that made me grow-up thinking hunting isn’t cool,” said the 63-year-old singer. He says that Bambi inspired his animal activism, which includes longtime support of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a group that opposes all animal use including hunting and fishing.

Sir Paul and his late wife Linda were vegetarians and campaigners for animal rights. They spoke against issues ranging from the use of animals for research to hunting. They went so far as to buy land throughout the United Kingdom to establish no-hunting zones.

Since Linda’s death, Paul has continued protesting animal issues. His new wife, Heather Mills, has similar anti-animal use philosophies, having clashed with authorities during a recent anti-fur demonstration.
