Arizona Hunter Harassment Bill Goes To Governor

An Arizona bill to allow for more effective prosecution of hunter harassers has advanced to the governor’s desk.

Gov. Janet Napolitano is being urged by sportsmen to sign House Bill 2130, that will clarify the definition of hunter harassment. The bill, introduced by Rep. Jerry Weiers, R-Phoenix, details specific actions that would be considered illegal within hunting areas. It unanimously passed the senate April 4 by vote of 30-0.

The amendment to the hunter harassment statute was requested by the Arizona Game and Fish Department to alleviate difficulties in the effective prosecution of anti-hunting protestors.

Anti’s in Arizona have a history of interfering with hunting. In fact, Arizona was the first state to outlaw harassment of hunters because of interference with bighorn sheep hunts.

Take Action! Arizona sportsmen should urge Gov. Napolitano to sign HB 2130. Explain that a strengthened hunter harassment statute will allow for more effective prosecution of those who break laws by harassing law-abiding sportsmen. To contact Gov. Napolitano’s office, call (602) 542-1900 or use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org.
