Anti-Hunting Effort In Michigan

Advocates of "animal rights" have succeeded in collecting enough signatures to put before voters the question of whether to ban Michigan's mourning dove hunting. It's the first major success of the new anti-hunting consolidated arm of the United States Humane Society and the Fund for Animals, which announced plans to raise $100,000 for the effort to overturn the state's hunting season created just a year ago. The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance reports that the signature collection success now means that there will be no dove hunting until voters decide the question in November 2006.
