ATA, STEP OUTSIDE Partner UpTo Recruit Newcomers To Trapshooting

NEWTOWN, Conn.—New faces around the country will be introduced to trapshooting for the first time thanks to a partnership between the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) and the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) STEP OUTSIDE® program.

Through the partnership, ATA gun clubs will be able to introduce family, friends and others in their communities to trapshooting by hosting STEP OUTSIDE events. NSSF has provided the ATA with $10,000 in grant money to be distributed to clubs for the events.

“Partnering with the ATA is an exciting opportunity for the STEP OUTSIDE program,” said Melissa Schilling, STEP OUTSIDE national coordinator. “It’s a great opportunity to reach out to the ATA’s 1,400 clubs, encouraging them to introduce newcomers to trapshooting and create new lifelong participants.”

The STEP OUTSIDE events are designed to help recruit new participants to the sport and to help increase awareness and public support. The clubs’ events will be publicized in “Trap & Field” magazine as well as on the Web sites of both the ATA and NSSF.

“The ATA is excited to partner with such a credible program as STEP OUTSIDE and this is an invaluable opportunity for all ATA gun clubs,” said the ATA’s Stacey Dietrich. “We are confident this grant program will help our clubs introduce new people to trapshooting and at least create more ambassadors for the shooting sports.”

The STEP OUTSIDE program has helped introduce thousands to the traditional outdoor activities of target shooting, hunting, fishing and archery by encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to invite others to share in their outdoor experiences.
