James B. Spencer has been involved with training retrievers since the late 1940s and has been competing in hunt tests since the early 1980s. He has conducted retriever and spaniel training seminars all over the country. He has been a judge for AKC, UKC, and NAHRA tests and has competed with a variety of breeds. He is the author of nine books and the "Retrieve" column for Gun Dog Magazine. He has competed at all levels with his own retrievers in AKC hunting tests, campaigned spaniels at all levels and judged all levels of AKC spaniel hunting tests.
