Please note: The Garmin DC-50 Collar is only compatible with the Garmin Astro 320 and is NOT compatible with the Astro 220 or the Alpha handhelds.
The Garmin DC-50 has a new top mounted receiver to track additional satellites using a combination of GPS and GLONASS technology. This means you will be able to track your dogs position, even in the thickest cover. The DC-50 will send your dog's position the Garmin Astro 320 handheld as frequently as every 5 seconds. The unit also features a new rugged braided VHF antenna, made of steel, adding more durability that ever before! Garmin has also included a long range collar antenna in the package. The DC 50 has a nine mile range - depending on the terrain.
Garmin also features behavior detection which will alert you when your dog is on point, sitting, running, or treed an animal. You can track up to 10 dogs with the Garmin Astro 320 handheld. The DC-50 can be used in conjunction with the DC-20, DC-30 and DC-40 tracking collars. Please note, the DC-50 is NOT compatible with the Garmin Astro 220 or the Garmin Alpha system.
The Garmin Astro 320 is the compatible unit for the DC-50 collars and can be extended up to 10 dogs simultaneously. Dog positions can be set at 5, 10, 30 or 120 second intervals with updates given. There is also a feature called the PIN-based lock feature to make sure other Astro users in the area cannot track your dog.

So what's new with the Garmin DC-50?
New Top Mounted GPS Receiver
The Garmin DC-50 GPS antenna is now mounted on the top of the dog's neck where it is more likely to be able to recieve and transmit a signal in thick or heavy cover. The collar strap is a standard 1 inch wide – polyurethane-coated nylon with nickel-plated square buckle and collar keeper that will fit neck sizes between 13 inches and 22 inches. Unlike the older DC-40 collar the DC-50 does not bolt onto the strap, the strap simply feeds through the collar guides - so changing the strap is a simple as sliding out the old strap and sliding in a new one.
New - Bark Detection Mode
The Garmin Astro DC-50 Tracking collars has the ability to detect barks and alert you even if your dog is outside audible range. When you put the unit in bark mode the handheld with display a "barking" icon and will display the number of barks per minute.
New Extended Battery Life
Garmin has extended the standard life of the lithium-ion batteries in the Garmin DC50 to 21 hours (when run at an update rate of 5 second). If you operate the collar in a slower update rate of 120 seconds you can expect to get up to 48 hours from a single charge. The unit can be fully charged in about 4 hours.
Additionally, Garmin has improved on the charging cradle. Instead of the charging cradle attaching to the USB cable, the cable is now integrated into the cradle so you have one less thing to lose when in the field or at home.
New Recovery Mode
Garmin has added a "Recovery Mode" feature to the new DC-50 collar. When the battery on a Garmin DC-50 collar drops below 25%, the collar operates in rescue mode and changes the update rate to 120 seconds, which prolongs battery life to extend your search.
New Basecamp Live TrackingGarmin Base Camp has been around for a while but is new to the Garmin Astro tracking system. Once you have downloaded the Garmin Base Camp software on your laptop you can simply plug your Garmin Astro 320 handheld into the USB port on your laptop and you can begin tracking your DC-50 collars on your laptop's screen just like you would on the handheld - but a much larger display!
New Collar USB PortThe DC-50 now has a USB port which makes firmware updates easy. You can simply plug your collar into your laptop and apply updates directly to the collar.
New Added PIN SecurityThe DC 50 features a PIN based collar lock feature to prevent unauthorized users from tracking your dog. In order to track one of your dog collars another user must have your 5-digit PIN number and be in range, which makes it extremely unlikely that someone can track your dog without your permission. This is a huge improvement over standard telemetry dog tracking collars where anyone can track a collar simply by knowing the collar frequency.
