Also known as a Sprig, Sprigtail, Spike, or a Spike tail, the Pintail is a medium size dabbling duck that can be easily distinguished from the other dabblers due to its long slender profile, elegant neck, and of course their pointed tail. Male Pintails have a long thin tail feather that can measure as great as 6 inches, and the females also have a distinct tail that only measures about a quarter of the males. This slim tail feather narrows down to a sharp point and takes credit for where this beautiful waterfowl gets its name. Pintails are usually found gliding through marshes, ponds, lakes, and rivers.
Loon Lake Decoy Company’s detailed sculpture “Quarter-life Size Pintail Drake” captures this remarkable dabbler with its definite features including the famous long pintail. Our Quarter-life Size products are a great small book shelf addition as well as a must have for the younger wildlife enthusiast. Hand crafted and Hand painted.
