PETA May Have Misused Video Images

PETA is no stranger to using provocative imagery in videos that it produces to advance its message. While this helps PETA get headlines, it has opened them up to potential litigation. The problem for PETA stems from the group’s liberal use of images from an early 1980s documentary on animal exploitation. That movie, “The Animals Film” was narrated by actress Julie Christie.

Rocky Mountain Wolf Update

Numerous bills are being introduced in Washington D.C. attempting to exempt the Northern Rocky Mountain wolves from Endangered Species Act protection and return management of the species to the states. On September 28, both of Montana’s U.S. Senators, Max Baucus (D) and Jon Tester (D), introduced legislation that would remove wolves located in Montana and Idaho from the ESA List and would place control over the management of those wolf populations back to Montana and Idaho.

Last week, the Pennsylvania legislature passed House Bill 2525, the Dog Kennel bill with all major changes requested by the US Sportsmen’s Alliance’s Sporting Dog Defense Coalition (SDDC). The bill was signed by Governor Ed Rendell on October 10.
While the legislation had stalled for awhile due to a variety of issues, it eventually made it through all hurdles, never picking up any additional alterations that could represent problems for sportsmen. Revised PA Bill Will Take Bite Out of Sporting Dog Breeders

(Columbus, OH) - A revised bill for proposed “puppy mill” regulations in Pennsylvania threatens to put sporting dog kennel owners and hobby breeders out of business if it is passed as currently written.

The new legislation, House Bill 2525, introduced today by Representative James E. Casorio Jr., D-Westmoreland, was crafted to address the issue of so-called “puppy mills,” abusive large-scale commercial dog breeding operations. In addition to regulating puppy mills, the measure sets up the non-elected officials of the state Agriculture Department as the unchecked, sole authority that controls puppy operations and all dog breeders, including smaller hunting dog kennels.

“We are concerned that future holders of these offices will not be accountable to the public or the legislature,” said Rob Sexton, vice president of government affairs for the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA).

As Minnesota kicked off its statewide bowhunting season, the City of Duluth launched its first bowhunt in 25 years.
