Every dog tracking collar system is made up of two components the hand-held receiver and the transmitter or dog tracking collar. The lightweight transmitter is a attached to a collar worn by the dog while hunting. The transmitter sends a short radio signal to the hand-held receiver every second on a specific frequency. The hand-held receiver listens for this signal, measuring the strength of the signal emitted from the dog tracking collar. Many of dog tracking collar receivers are equipped with a directional antenna to help determine the direction of the signal and the bearing to the dog.
Dog Tracking Collars - Terminology
Range - When manufacturers state the range of a dog tracking collar they are referring the the distance the collar can be detected over a flat and unobstructed terrain. These distances are quoted with under ideal circumstances; a clear line of sight and a fully charged transmitter. Range can be reduced with differences in terrain or a weak collar. However, all the dog tracking collars we carry are engineered to work in the toughest terrains without dramatically compromising or weakening the signal.
Features - Many of the hunting dog tracking collars we offer are equipped with behavior circuits like bark indicators, tree switches, pointing mode to help you understand the behavior of your hunting companion while he/she is out of sight. Bark Indicators - tells you if his dog is on a fresh game trail. Tree Switch - Tells you if the dog has treed his query. Pointing Mode - tells you if the dog has become stationary or on point.
Radio Bands / Radio Frequencies - All Dog tracking collars operate on one or more different bands. Some models are capable of handling a single band while others are capable of tracking collars for dogs on multiple bands. The FCC has approved the following bands for North America - 216, 217, 218, 219, and 220 mhz. Each band is then divided into a thousand different frequencies from XXX.000 to XXX.999. If your dog tracking collar system is capable of tracking multiple collars on a single band (for example the 217 band) be sure you order collars with a large enough frequency gap to avoid overlapping. Depending on the receiver you choose you will be able to track from 1 to 1000 dogs.
Beeper CollarsWhile many sportsmen love the sound of a traditional bell while hunting over their favorite upland dog, few can argue that the beeper collars latest technology has many advantages over a bell when hunting. The largest disadvantage of hunting over a pointing dog wearing a bell is that the bell is silent when your dog is locked in on a bird, making it difficult to locate your dog at this critical time. Beeper collars have addressed this limitation and many others.

What size dog crate should I purchase?
Dog crates come in many types and sizes. Typically the height and length of your dog will determine what size dog kennel you should purchase. The ideal size should enable your dog to stand up, without ducking his head below his shoulders and allow your dog to lie down and stretch to his full body length without being cramped. If you are purchasing a wire dog crate for a new puppy you will want to make sure you purchase a dog kennel divider panel. A divider panel adds versatility to your dog kennel and saves you money by allowing you to adjust the size as your puppy grows. If the crate is too big, he may eliminate in one corner, and then go to another corner to sleep. Purchasing a divider panel helps solve this problem and cuts the housebreaking process time in half!

Hearing Protection - Terminology Noise Reduction Rating - or NRR is the quickest way to determine the level of ear protection a unit offers, the higher the number, the higher the level of protection. Most hearing protection devices offer an NRR ranging from 19dB - 31dB (dB=decibels). For those shooting indoors, under covered ranges or larger calibers, consider something in the range of 24dB - 31dB; these units offer maximum protection. Outdoor shooters have fewer echoes and less sound reverberation and therefore may opt for a lower NRR. Furthermore, some shooters combine ear plugs and ear muffs to achieve even maximum sound reduction. When dual protectors are used, the combined NRR provides approximately 5 decibels more than the higher rated of the two products. For example, using ear plugs (NRR of 29 decibels) with ear muffs (NRR 27) would provide a Noise Reduction Rating of 34 decibels. In most cases, Noise Reduction Rating and the overall style of the cup are directly related. Handgun and rifle shooters who need maximum hearing protection should opt for full cup design, while shotgun shooters and tend to choose the chop cup because the design does not interfere with the mount of their gun and still provides a high level of ear protection. In order to determine effective noise exposure of a person wearing hearing protection, the NRR must be subtracted from the measured sound level (dB) they are exposed to in the field. This method is sometimes referred to as NIOSH method #2. Effective exposure in dB = sound level in dB - NRR. Please note NRR ratings are based on the maximum noise reduction obtained in controlled, ideal laboratory conditions.

Installation Tips - Electric Dog Fence
Installing the wire of the electronic dog fence is simple. Bury the boundary wire underground approximately 1-2 inches deep. You can customize your containment system to protect your flowerbeds, shrubs and swimming pools. After the boundary wire is installed and the transmitter is turned on, the system is ready. The wire emits a radio signal. When this signal is received by the collar, stimulation will occur. As your dog enters the containment zone the collar will sound a warning tone without stimulation. If your dog does not re-enter the area contained by the electronic dog fence a low level of stimulation will occur. If he continues toward the boundary wire, the stimulation will steadily increase to prevent him from leaving the area.
Installation Tips - Wireless Dog Fence
Setting up a wireless dog fence takes only minutes. The transmitter plugs into any standard 110 volt outlet. Since the signal can transmit reliably through walls or other household obstructions, it can be placed in any convenient and discreet location in your house, typically a garage or closet. A small dial allows you to adjust the containment area. It is also useful to set flags along to perimeter of the contained area to act as a visual aid for you and your dog while training.
